JAMB Denies Opening Change of Course / Institution Process for 2017 UTME - The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied opening the portal for candidates to change or correct their course, institution or even data for the 2017 UTME.
This announcement came after a large crowd stormed the Ikoyi, Lagos office of JAMB, claiming that JAMB closed the portal to Accredited CBT Centres because they were extorting the candidates. The candidates claimed that JAMB had instructed all CBT centres to refer candidates to only their offices Nationwide.
It was even reported that 9 Candidates Fainted due to the crowd, while trying to successfully effect a change in their Course/Institution.
We're not sure why JAMB released this statement, since many candidates here had confirmed to had successfully effected 2017 Change in Course/Institution at CBT centres.
Read the statement released by the Head of Media and Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin below;
Benjamin said that reports reaching the headquarters of the board indicated that a large crowd of candidates on Wednesday besieged the board’s Lagos office.
He said the development was creating unnecessary anxiety and chaos where there should be none.
"This announcement became necessary following the crowd in our offices by candidates demanding for such services.
"Affected candidates are urged to remain calm as we shall contact them when the time is right.
"The request for correction of data is usually from candidates, who provided wrong information while filling their application document online," Benjamin said.
According to him, the change of institutions is for those who are considering other preferences other than their initial choices.
He noted that the candidates were misled to believe that the board had started such services and would soon close.
He said that when the board opened the window for correction of data and change of course it would make the announcement.
He assures all candidates desirous of carrying out the correction of data or change of institution that the board would ensure that enough time was given for them to do so.
Benjamin also explained that the board had not finished with the conduct of the 2017 UTME.
"The board is still conducting examinations for those who registered late and those who could not be verified during the examination.
"As such, it will be unfair to them to open window for such correction and changes at the same time.
"Our reforms are meant to make our services accessible to all conveniently."
He also said that JAMB would decentralise the service when it eventually opened its portal for it.
"We are collaborating with the University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology and other stakeholders on this in Lagos. We will do same in other states.
"This will ease the pressure on our various offices and ensure a hitch-free process."

Osinbajo Orders Reopening Of FG N-Power Job Portal to Allow More Unemployed Nigerians Apply - Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has directed that the online portal of the government’s job initiative, N-Power, be reopened June 17 to allow more unemployed Nigerians apply, the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said.
Mrs. Ahmed advised youth to apply for the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP).
Mrs. Ahmed advised youth to apply for the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP).
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the government would scale up the N-SIP to accommodate more beneficiaries.
N-SIP is a federal government programme aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods of vulnerable groups such as the unemployed youths, women and children.
The government says the programme has so far empowered over 1.6 million Nigerians through its four components, namely; N-Power, National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.
The minister said each component of the programme would be scaled up this year.
“For example, in N-Power Scheme that 200,000 beneficiaries have been employed, we are supposed to increase it to 500,000 beneficiaries in 2017,” she said.
She said Mr. Osinbajo had directed that the online portal should be reopened on June 17 to give Nigerian youth opportunity to apply for the next batch.
“There is opportunity in the N-Power Programme for employment,” she said.
“There is opportunity in the GEEP for you to get finances to be able to start businesses.
“ Please this is real, it is working, join the process and be a beneficiary,’’ she said.
“ Please this is real, it is working, join the process and be a beneficiary,’’ she said.
She also said that the N-power recruitment portal: www.portal.npower.gov.ng will be open to all eligible citizens of the country Nigeria
The minister said the process was delayed initially because of the effort to eliminate fraudulent applicants and to make the process transparent.
She said the programme had not been able to attain its set target because of the delay in starting its actual implementation.
“The deployment, release of funds didn’t start till October 2016 and it is so because we want to make sure that the programme is planned properly.
“We want to make sure that each beneficiary has bank account linked to BVN; we are targeting the right people, not just people nominated by big people.
“That took a lot of time but we thank God that the programme is going on well and it is now easier to upscale it,’’ the minister said.
Mrs. Ahmed said the programme was showcased at the second year commemorative event of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29.
She said that the event, with the theme: “A Smile for Every Nigerian,’’ recorded testimonies of beneficiaries across the country.
“We are thanking God for witnessing the confirmation that the work we have done is actually yielding results.
“ Prior to now, we are getting a report on paper that shows the number of beneficiaries but we have seen and heard the testimonies of the beneficiaries at the event,’’ Ahmed said.

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has fired its national chairman,Modu Sheriff, and has appointed an interim party executive led by a former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi.
Elects Makarfi as new PDPNational Chairman, Force Ali Modu Sheriff Out Angrily: The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, angrily stormed out of the venue of the party’s meeting on Saturday after he was dethroned. A former Governor of Kaduna, Sen Ahmed Makarfi was named as the party’s caretaker National Chairman while Senator Ben Obi was named as the National Secretary of the party
More Updates.
Sheriff said the Convention, which he had earlier announced postponed, stood cancelled
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has opposed the National Convention of the party that was held on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Sheriffsaid the Convention, which he had earlier announced postponed, stood cancelled.
He said what transpired at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt after he pronounced the Convention cancelled was a charade.
He also described it as illegal.
Sheriffhad on Saturday pronounced the Convention postponed, alluding to the court judgements directing that it should not hold.
He said the delegates should return home.
But after the pronouncement, the Deputy National Chairmanof the PDP, Uche Secondus, declared the Congress open.
At the Congress, it was agreed that a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, should head an interim committee to lead the party.
Makarfi is to be assisted by six other members.
The team was given 90 days within which to conduct an acceptable National Convention.
It was a game of intrigues in Port Harcourt on Saturday as the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, was edged out in the national convention of the party held in Port Harcourt.
The decision to dissolve the national working committee (NWC) of the party was one of the first decisions of the Port Harcourt convention which took place after Sheriff had said the convention had been put off following a series of court orders that tried to stop the convention.
Sheriff had earlier in the day called off the convention at a press briefing he held at the Le Meridien Hotel, Port Harcourt, citing court orders restraining the party from proceeding with the convention as reason.
He addressed the press after a meeting that lasted several hours at the Government House, Port Harcourt. At the meeting were the 12 PDP governors, members of the national assembly, members of the national working committee and elders of the party.
THISDAY reliably gathered that the stakeholders had asked Sheriff to step down as acting national chairman of the party but he refused, insisting that he had till 2018 to preside over the affairs of the party.
The meeting was therefore deadlocked about 2.30pm, leading to his press briefing.
At the press briefing, Sheriff said, “If we proceed with the convention, we will be charged for contempt of court. As a responsible party, we have to respect the court orders. We will reconvene as soon as we are able to dispense with the court cases.
“We’ve been meeting since morning. We had challenges of series of court cases, we’ve decided to abandon election into Chairman, Secretary and auditor.
“We have suspended the convention; we had three different cases in Abuja and Lagos. INEC also said they will not supervise the election. We will be contravening the court and we will be charged for contempt of court. We went to court, but we were denied permission.”
He said he would reconvene the convention as soon as the court orders were vacated.
“We will do it as soon as we get them (the court orders) vacated. We’ve told all delegates to go home. There is no space for election,” he said.
But while Sheriff left Port Harcourt after his briefing, the 12 PDP governors as well as members of the National Assembly and other stakeholders headed straight to the Sharks Stadium venue of the convention and kicked off the programme, with Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the National Convention Committee, Nyesom Wike, in charge.
